What Is Acoustic Consultation

A professional room acoustic assessment

before any work begins.

Acoustic consultation is a professional service where a trained acoustic expert visits your space, measures its current performance using calibrated equipment, and gives you a clear picture of what is actually happening and what to do about it.

Whether you’re planning a podcast studio, treating an office, soundproofing a boardroom, or assessing a commercial space the consultation is always the smartest place to start.

RT60 Measurement

We measure reverberation time across 6 frequency bands 125Hz to 4kHz to understand exactly how your room behaves at each frequency. This is the foundation of all acoustic design decisions.

Noise Transmission Assessment

We test how much sound travels between your room and adjacent spaces, to calculate the STC (Sound Transmission Class) your partitions are currently achieving and what they need to achieve.

Written Acoustic Audit Report

You receive a detailed written report: measurement results, problem identification, material recommendations, panel placement diagrams, and a phased implementation plan within 5–7 business days.

Design Recommendations

Specific acoustic treatment recommendations what materials, what NRC rating, how much coverage, where to place panels derived from measurement, not from a product catalogue.

Why You Need a Consultation First

The mistakes that happen when you skip the measurement.

Spending money on panels that don't fix the actual problem

The most common and expensive acoustic mistake: buying and installing acoustic panels based on what looks right, or what a vendor recommended without measuring the room first. Panels placed in the wrong locations provide almost no benefit. Measurement tells you exactly where they should go and how much coverage you need.

Treating echo when the real problem is noise coming in

Acoustic treatment and soundproofing are completely different. If you have a noise floor problem external noise entering from outside or adjacent spaces adding acoustic panels inside the room will not solve it. Without a proper diagnostic, clients regularly invest in treatment when what they needed was soundproofing.

Over-treating low frequencies and creating a dead, unnatural sound

More acoustic treatment is not always better. Over-treated rooms particularly ones with too much broadband absorption sound unnaturally dead and fatiguing. This happens when treatment is applied uniformly without measuring the room's frequency response first. The right treatment balances absorption, diffusion, and reflection.

Buying the wrong soundproofing materials for your wall type

Indian construction hollow brick, lightweight concrete, standard plaster behaves differently from the Western construction most soundproofing guides assume. Materials that work well on dense masonry underperform on hollow walls. Without an assessment of your specific construction type and noise source, material selection becomes guesswork with expensive consequences.

Discovering the acoustic problem after the interior is finished

The most expensive version of the same mistake: a room is fully built and finished before anyone thinks about acoustics. Retrofitting acoustic treatment after the interior is complete is significantly more expensive than integrating it during the build. An acoustic consultation in the planning phase can prevent this entirely and it's the least expensive acoustic decision you can make.

Getting different advice from every vendor you speak to

Without an independent acoustic assessment, you're relying on vendor recommendations each of whom has a product to sell. An acoustic consultant has no product interest: we measure, diagnose, and recommend. The report you receive is independent, documented, and specific to your space not a sales pitch for a particular brand of panel or foam.

Who This Is For

Acoustic consultation is for anyone making a space related decision before it’s too late.

Podcasters & Content Creators

Planning a home studio? A consultation tells you exactly what your existing room needs before you buy a single panel or upgrade your mic.

Corporate Facility Managers

Office too noisy? Boardroom conversations leaking? Get a measurement-backed report that justifies the acoustic treatment budget to your leadership.

Architects & Interior Designers

Need an acoustic specialist on your project team? We provide acoustic design specifications your contractors can implement — or we execute it ourselves.

Musicians & Producers

Your listening environment affects every mix decision you make. A room analysis tells you what your monitors are actually revealing and what they're hiding.

Hotels & Hospitality

Guest noise complaints? A professional acoustic audit identifies exactly which boundaries are failing and what it will take to fix them, room by room.

Educational Institutions

Classrooms, auditoriums, and lecture halls where speech clarity directly affects learning outcomes we measure, recommend, and can execute the solution.

Understand what your consultant is measuring — and why it matters.

These guides are written in plain language for space owners, facility managers, and creators not acoustic engineers.

What Is RT60 And Why Does Your Room Have One?

RT60 is the single most important number in room acoustics. It is the time measured in seconds that it takes for sound in your room to decay by 60 dB after the source stops. In practical terms, it describes how long your room "echoes" after someone speaks or plays a note. A well-treated recording studio might have an RT60 of 0.3–0.5 seconds. An untreated office might be 1.2–1.8 seconds. A large tiled bathroom can be 2–3 seconds. The target RT60 for your space depends entirely on its use: speech-focused rooms need low RT60, music rooms need slightly higher, large auditoria need careful control across frequency bands. Our acoustic consultation measures RT60 at 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, and 4kHz — giving a complete picture of how your room behaves at every frequency your ears care about.

Flutter Echo, Standing Waves, Room Modes: What's Killing Your Room's Sound?

Three acoustic problems account for the majority of room sound issues — and each has a different cause and a different fix. Flutter echo is a rapid, repeating echo caused by sound bouncing between two parallel reflective surfaces (typically two facing walls). You can identify it by clapping once in a room and listening for a "slapback" or "ticking" decay. Standing waves (room modes) are frequency-specific pressure buildups at particular positions in the room caused by the room's dimensions creating constructive interference at certain wavelengths. They make bass sound boomy in some positions and thin in others. Reverberation is the accumulation of all reflected sound what gives rooms a "live" or "dead" character. Each of these problems requires a different treatment approach: flutter echo responds to absorption on facing walls; standing waves require bass traps and broadband low-frequency absorption at boundaries; reverberation requires coverage-area absorption and diffusion. An acoustic measurement identifies which of these problems is dominant in your space.

NRC vs STC: Which Rating Actually Matters for Your Project?

Two numbers appear on almost every acoustic product — and most buyers don't know what either of them means. NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) measures how much sound a material absorbs: a rating of 1.0 means it absorbs all sound, 0.0 means it reflects all sound. NRC tells you how well an acoustic panel treats the inside of a room. STC (Sound Transmission Class) measures how much sound a wall, door, or partition stops from passing through: STC tells you how well a barrier soundproofs. These two ratings describe completely different properties. A material can have excellent NRC and terrible STC (acoustic foam), or high STC and low NRC (concrete wall). Understanding which rating applies to your problem internal acoustic treatment or sound isolation is the foundation of correct specification. Our consultation report specifies both where relevant, for each element of your room.

When Should Acoustic Consultation Happen in a Building Project?

The most cost-effective answer: before the structural drawings are finalised. The second most cost-effective: before interior finishes are specified. The most expensive: after everything is built and finished. Acoustic design decisions room dimensions, partition specifications, HVAC duct routing, floor construction, ceiling height are far cheaper to get right during design than to fix after construction. A partition wall specified at STC 50 costs marginally more than one specified at STC 35 during construction. Retrofitting the same upgrade after completion can cost 5–8x more. For architects and project management consultants, engaging an acoustic consultant at schematic design phase provides acoustic performance specifications that integrate seamlessly with structural and mechanical design and prevents expensive post-completion remediation for their clients.
